Answer:

Question:  How can I find out how many segments I have and what they are?

Answer: There are two places to go to find out about your segment information:

Go to Organization>Organization Information and click on the Segments Tab.

This will give you a list of your segments. The “Type” column lets you know what type of segment it is (Fund, BAL, GL, RESTRICTION or NON BALANCING).

For an understanding of these types see KB: 26581

You can rename a segment here if desired type typing in the name column.

NOTE: If your GL type segment was originally named GL do not change it, this can cause issues.

Also, on this screen you can see the default order for data entry for segment types. This can be re-ordered.

NOTE: This entry sequence is not the same as the segment ID. To see your segment IDs for use in advanced operations (like the REST API, data tables and scripts) use the instructions below.

Another way to see your segment information as well as more detailed information about what number as associated with the segment is to do the following

Go to Help>About MIP.
In the screen that pops up double click right beneath where it says, “About MIP”.

This will bring up the Support Information Screen. Uncheck everything except Organization Object and click Display.

This will show you your segment information.

This has the information from the other method as well as the Physical ID. This physical ID is the order that the segments are in the Database

The GL segment is always Physical ID 0 (the 1st segment). Other segments vary by database.

In the SQL tables the tables containing that segments info are the
tblAcctCode_# where the number is the Physical Order ID for the segment.
In the REST API segments are referred to as segment# where the number is the Physical ID.
